Qualified First Aider at Work
Course Details
Duration: 3 consecutive days or day release (completed within 3 weeks)
This course qualifies candidates under the HSE regulations and includes both practical and theoretical examinations. Certificates are valid for three years. To maintain their qualification First Aiders are required to take a 2 day Re-qualification course every three years, prior to the expiry date of their certificate.

- Resuscitation
- Treatment and control of bleeding
- Treatment of shock
- Management of the unconscious casualty
- Contents of first-aid boxes and their use
- Purchasing first-aid supplies
- Transport of casualties
- Recognition of illness
- Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Treatment of minor injuries
- Treatment of burns and scalds
- Eye irrigation
- Poisons
- Simple record keeping
- Personal hygiene in treatment wounds; reference to Hepatitis B and Human Immuno Deficiency Virus, with regard to first-aiders
- Communication and delegation in an emergency
This course includes physical work and it is advised that candidates be of a good state of health. Corporate Health Supplies can also provide First Aid boxes and accessories. Medical Indemnity and immunisation against Hepatitis B can be arranged if required.
