The subjects covered by the Health and Safety Advisory
Service are as follows:
Legislation
Interpretation of directives relating to Health & Safety
and advice regarding the implementation of legislation
into specific work places.
Occupational Health
Advice regarding criteria and approach to pre-employment,
crisis management, sickness absence, ill health retirement,
health promotion in the workforce, health surveillance
and implementation of Occupational Health policies such
as no smoking or drugs and alcohol.
Training
Advice on training in the following areas and requirements
under legislation:- First Aid, VDU (visual display unit),
Manual Handling, Stress Management, Health & Safety,
Risk Assessment, Noise, C.O.S.H.H. (control of substances
hazardous to health), Skin Inspection, Smoking.
Safety
Advice on Health & Safety recommendations, specific
industry statistics for example mortality rates. Information
on weights and measures applied to certain areas of
industrial procedures such as manual handling. Personal
and environmental monitoring, workplace advice, risk
assessment, C.O.S.H.H. assessment, use of personal protective
equipment, etc.
Travel Health
Advice regarding vaccination requirements and programmes
for both U.K. and worldwide, for executive travel on
business or holiday.
Catering and Hygiene
This area covers all aspects of food legislation, requirements
under the Act for Employers, requirements under the
Act of Employees. Safe working procedures, equipment
required for the processing of food, screening programmes
required as per the Health & Safety Executive guidelines
